- The English name of this cat is based on Xerxes I, a King of Persia. There was no Xerxes the ninth, however, so the number IX may reference the common myth that cats have nine lives.
- Xerxes IX's facial features are based on the Persian cat, and it seems to be wearing a Persian carpet.
